Warsaw, MO - Joe Dice Swinging Bridge Lighting and Trail Improvements
The City of Warsaw has been awarded a federal grant to make improvements to the Joe Dice Swinging Bridge and Trail. This project consists of a slight realignment and an extension of the Joe Dice Suspension Bridge trail segment of the Drake Harbor Recreation Area trails, as well as replacement of the existing lighting on the Joe Dice Swinging Bridge.
The existing bridge pathway lights are obsolete and have been frequently vandalized and need replaced. New generation LED lights are recommended to provide a superior life span of operation. Existing wiring on both sides of the bridge will need minor modification for the new lights. Design is currently underway to determine the type of lights and their location for better security from vandalism.
The existing trail is on MoDOT and city right-of-way.
The trail on the east side of the bridge will be realigned to cross old Highway 7 closer to the intersection of Kennedy Drive. This will provide a better alignment to extend the trail northward adjacent to Kennedy Drive into Lay Park. The new trail crossing will include improved pavement marking and signage for better safety. The trail realignment will also allow for more parking spaces.
